ABOUT DIRECTX
PLUG-INS DirectX is fast becoming the architectural standard for audio plug-ins on the Windows platform because it allows users to mix and match host editors and plug-ins from a variety of manufacturers. As a DirectX plug-in, XFX 2™ can be used with any program that supports DirectX Audio Plug-Ins. DirectX Audio Plug-Ins allow real-time previewing for faster editing. Real-Time vs. Non Real-Time Previews One of the coolest features of DirectX audio plug-ins is the ability to preview the function's effect in real time. This means that as you change parameters while previewing, changes are almost instantaneous to the sound. What this allows you to do is quickly tweak parameters until you're satisfied with the sound you're getting. 16 vs. 24-bit processing The DirectX architecture allows for audio to be handed to the different transforms in a variety of formats. Sound Forge supports 8 and 16-bit integer and 24-bit float audio formats. The 24-bit float format really occupies 32 bits, with 24 bits allocated for the mantissa, but this should concern only computer scientists and mathematicians. The formats supported by the plug-in are determined by the plug-in's developer. All Sonic Foundry DirectX audio plug-ins support 8, 16 and 24-bit audio. Back to XFX 2 |
